Molecular Imprinting

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have unique properties that make them suitable for use in SPE or immuno-type assays (MIA). MIPs are prepared by allowing a network polymer to form in presence of a template, i.e. a structure directing agent. Removal of the template postpolymerization leaves behind a cavity which is complementary to the template in terms of size and shape. Thus MIPs can be programmed to recognize a large variety of low molecular target structures often associated with antibody-like affinities and selectivities. Our group is engaged in several interdisciplinary research projects addressing questions concerning host-guest chemistry, polymer chemistry, structure and morphology to applications in the areas of biomarker analysis, antibiotics assays, proteomics, chiral separations and chromogenic sensors.
