About us

The Institute of Environmental Research (INFU) was founded in 1972. It is a central scien­tific facility of the University Dortmund. INFU initiates, promotes and carries out inter­disciplinary research projects in the field of environmental protection.

The main fields of research are:

  • environmental chemistry
  • sustainable chemistry
  • ecotoxicology
  • environmental economics

At INFU, scientists from various fields focus on the following issues:

INFU has an environmental lab at its disposal which is fully equipped with most recent analytical instruments.

The principal sponsors of the institute in the framework of third-party-funded research projects are the German Research Council (DFG), the Federal Departments for Regional Policy, Construction and Urban Development, for Economic Cooperation and Development, the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA), the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DSU), the Federal Office of Statistics, the State Departments and local authorities, industrial companies, OECD, UNO and the European Commission.
